A Year of Writing

This has been a year of writing for me.  Our Wilmington, NC, friend, Marimar McNaughton, invited me to write several articles for the magazine she edits, Wrightsville Beach Magazine.  It’s a gorgeous glossy.  Writing and researching the articles have given me many opportunities to meet and get to know the local community there, and its gardens.

Here are links to articles I wrote for some of this year's issues:

“Designer’s Favorite Plants”, May:

“Seaside Succulents”, July:

“Southeast by Southwest”, August:

“Of Vines and Dogs”, October:

“Goober Peas”, November:
Included in this article is a great peanut soup recipe provided by my old pal, Brian Noyes, owner and head baker at the Red Truck Bakery, in Warrenton, VA.

Marimar edits Lumina Newsin Wilmington, as well, for which I wrote a
couple of pieces earlier in the year.

I’m looking forward to writing some for Marimar in 2013, too.

Also in Wilmington, our friend, Katie Elzer-Peters, wrote a delightful article about our garden down there, in the Wilmington Star-News, which appeared this Summer.  Much different than the Arlington garden (besides the warmer climate), it is a sunny garden; we grow sun-lovers, especially Zinnias and Marigolds (thousands of both this year) and enjoy lots of butterflies, birds, bees, and hummingbirds.

Last Spring, Arlington Magazine e-mailed and asked me to share my
garden with them.  It was fun to participate.  The article, “Water World”,
was written by Kim O’Connell.

Lastly, Inspired magazine asked for my comments for their article in the Fall issue, “Take It Outside”, by Pamela Hess.
